 LOFTS
The Derby Lofts are located inside the property, and by the lofts of the renowned Canarian fancier, Lorenzo Olarte Cullen. His grandfather, the general Santiago Cullen Verdugo, was the founder, more than a century ago, of the first Canary Islands Colombophile Association, and author of one of the first Racing Pigeons books of all Spain, more than 100 years ago. Many of this book's concepts are still valid and in use today.

 LOFTS' CHARACTERISTICS
These very modern lofts have a capacity for more than 1,000 pigeons. It was built six years ago, after importing it from Germany. It is very well-built with treated wood, very comfortable, and with an excellent ventilation system. It has ten windows for the pigeons to land and come in, and a length of 40 metres and a width of 3 metres. The loft is divided in ten sections, with a corridor and two entrances from outside. It has also an automatic cleaning system and wooden grids on the floor. It is oriented to the East, so it is protected from the alisios winds coming from the North East, that even though they are soft, they are the dominant ones in the Canary Islands. The lofts are built under the current legal requirements, established by the Spanish Royal Pigeon Federation.

 LOCATION
The lofts are located in the island of Gran Canaria, in the village of Santa Brígida (18 kilometres away from the island's capital, Las Palmas de Gran Canaria) inside a land property of more than 20,000 square metres. We are located at 660 metres above sea level in an area called Buenavista (Madroñal), a beautiful rural area with easy access from any point of the island, through the newly-built modern road infrastructure.

 TRANSPORTATION
There is a modern public bus service from the capital running every 30 minutes, with a stop a few metres away from the Lofts, at around 1.80 € per person. Gran Canaria has a large and modern fleet of taxis that at a very reasonable fee, lower than the European average, can bring visitors right to the lofts.

 VISITING HOURS
You may freely visit the lofts every Saturday from 10:00am to 2:00pm. You may also visit at any other time by arrangement with the Organization.

 LODGE & RESTAURANTS NEARBY
Everyone in Europe is aware of Gran Canaria, as one of the top tourist destinations. Besides the hundreds of hotels and apartments of all categories that exist in Gran Canaria's capital, Las Palmas, and the rest of the island, there are modern hotels and restaurants around our location, some very nearby with a high standard and very reasonable rates.

 CLIMATE
The climate is very mild, mostly sunny and with little rain, as it is traditional in the West Canary Islands. The temperature is spring-like all year round. For that reason, for its beauty and charm, the Canaries have been in past centuries called "Fortunate Islands", "The Eternal Spring Country", and other similar terms. Our lofts are located just a few kilometres away from the best beaches of the island.
